“NGT Issues Notices to Punjab Chief Secretary and CPCB Member Secretary Over Stubble Burning Amid Rising Delhi Pollution”

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has taken a decisive step in addressing the increasing air pollution crisis in Delhi. Expressing grave concerns about the burning of stubble exacerbating the pollution levels, NGT has issued notices to Punjab’s Chief Secretary and the Member Secretary of the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). The tribunal’s action comes in response to a report submitted by the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) outlining a three-year comparative analysis of stubble burning incidents.

According to the report, stubble burning, especially in regions surrounding Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR), stands out as a major contributor to the worsening air quality. NGT Chairman Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel and expert member A. Senthil Vel have directed officials to identify the most affected areas within the hotspot districts and focus on implementing effective solutions to curb this hazardous practice.

The NGT has scheduled the next hearing on this critical matter for November 8. With pollution levels on the rise, addressing stubble burning has become an urgent priority, and NGT’s intervention marks a significant step toward environmental sustainability and public health.
