A 1992- Punjab batch IPS officer, Gaurav Yadav today took the
additional charge of Director General of Police (Head of Police Force) Punjab.
Yesterday,
the Punjab government took the decision that Special Principal Secretary to
Chief Minister, Punjab, IPS Gaurav Yadav will take up the additional charge of DGP
of Punjab in place of IPS V.K Bhawra who has gone on a long leave of two months
starting from 5th July to 7th September.
The
officer, Gaurav Yadav is of the 1992 batch, and the National Convener of Aam
Admi Party, Arvind Kejriwal also belongs to the 1992 batch. Both of them are very close to each other.
Gaurav
Yadav has done mechanical engineering, M.A in Police Administration, and is
also a Ph.D.

Intelligence expert Gaurav Yadav has a wide experience in policing and is also
expected to play a key role in the State government.
As an IG, Yadav had also served as intelligence wing chief
during the Shiromani Akali Dal-BJP government’s tenure in 2016. He has worked in various
positions in the State Police so far and has held many important positions even
during the SAD-BJP coalition government. He is the son-in-law of Punjab’s former DGP PC Dogra.
He is selected as the acting DGP by
the state government because he has vast experience working in different
positions in different cities of Punjab.
Also, in the last 1 year, three DGPs
have been changed i.e. Inderpreet Singh Sahota, Sidharth Chatopadhayay, and VK
Bhawra.
After taking the charge, he conveys to
everyone that his main priorities are gangsters and drugs.
