Finally, after facing the horrific incident of Ajnala, the Punjab government decided to fill the vacant position of ‘Intelligence head’ in the state and appointed IGP Jaskaran Singh as the new chief of Intelligence. He was earlier appointed as the Police commissioner of Amritsar.
The development came today, hours after TrueScoop pointed towards the empty position of Intelligence chief in Punjab. Reportedly, the position of Punjab’s Intelligence chief has remained vacant for almost a month since the retirement of IGP Jatinder Singh Aulakh. Meanwhile, the duties of the Intelligence Chief were carried out by the ADGP of Punjab.
Punjab has always been very careful and strict when it comes to maintaining law and order in the state. The unappointed position of the head of the Intelligence department raises many questions for the government. The Ajnala incident has further drawn attention to this vacant post of Punjab’s intelligence chief.
For the unversed, Lovepreet Singh was arrested by police on February 17 on charges of kidnapping and assault on a Chamkaur Sahib-based resident Varinder Singh, following which the supporters of Amritpal Singh broke through police barricades with swords and guns outside Ajnala Police station in Punjab.
