Canada has long been considered one of the best countries in the world for higher education. Due to this reason, students from every corner of the world, prefer going to Canada for studies.

As per the data from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) shows that students who went to study have disappeared. In March-April 2024, about 50,000 students have not reported to their colleges, which is 6.9% of the total foreign students. According to the reports, these students have not attended classes.

Around 20 thousand Indian students are missing, which is 5.4% of the total Indian students. These students have also not returned to college. Indian officials are investigating whether some colleges in Canada are connected to the illegal migration network.

The Federal report states that IRCC has confirmed that nearly 20,000 Indian students are missing from their colleges or universities. These students have been recorded as 'no-shows' in the institutions, meaning they have not attended their educational institutions for a long time.

Other countries that are on the 'no show' list are China and Rwanda. China with 4,279 students, Iran (1,848 students), and Rwanda (802 students) are on the list.

There are allegations that some students have used study permits to go to Canada on the pretext of studies. There can be multiple easons for foreign students to not attend classes in Canada. One of the reasons could be that unrecognized agents make false promises of getting jobs and permanent residency to the students.

Another reason could be that there is no monitoring of the activities of the students after reaching Canada. There are no strict rules for tuition fees as well. Most of the students who come to Canada to study are from the middle class and their parents have taken education loans.

Due to this, after reaching Canada, they start focusing more on jobs than studies. They think that they will repay all their loans by working during their studies. Many times, students work at two places in a day. There are some students for whom obtaining permanent residency is a priority. They do not even follow the conditions of the study permit.
