The gas leak in Punjab's Ludhiana has resulted in the tragic death of 11 people, including two children, on Sunday morning. The incident occurred at the Kariana store and milk booth in a building on Sua Road near Gyaspura Industrial Area. Eyewitnesses Arvind and Shivam were among the first to reach the spot after the accident. They recounted experiencing a dark shadow with a burning sensation in their eyes, and feeling their minds go numb upon entering the store. Policemen who entered the shop also reportedly began feeling dizzy.
Arvind shared that when he arrived at the scene, people were lying on the ground and calling for help. He added that it was difficult to breathe in the air at the location, and that he and Shivam were only able to avoid falling ill by tying handkerchiefs around their faces. Shivam, on the other hand, initially mistook the strong smell in the air as a result of industrialists pouring acidic water into the sewerage. He described experiencing severe burning in the eyes, difficulty breathing, and itching in the throat.

Shivam explained that the industrialists in the area often release acidic water into the sewerage, leading to the accumulation of poisonous water on the roads. As a result, the people in the area suffer from skin diseases, and their feet itch for a week if they pass through rainwater. The exact cause of the gas leak is still under investigation.
The police PCR arrived at the scene approximately ten minutes after being informed, and some officers went directly inside the shop but reportedly also felt dizzy. The other officers quickly removed them and called an ambulance to begin removing the people lying on the road. The tragic incident highlights the need for stricter regulations to ensure the safety of people living and working in industrial areas.
