In a bid to cover hundred percent beneficiaries under the Unique Disability Identity Card (UDID) scheme, a mega medical checkup camp was organized at Pingla Ghar Jalandhar. In the camp as many as 118 beneficiaries were registered for the UDID cards.
Divulging the details, Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori said that after the physical examination by the doctors, disability certificates were issued to beneficiaries. He further added that in today’s camp a total of 118 beneficiaries got registered for UDID cards of which 46 have received disability certificates whereas 54 referred for further checkups. He mentioned that 18 applications were cancelled due to non-disability reported after the checkup.
The deputy commissioner said that many more such camps would be held in the district including special camp on February 10 at Redcross, at PHC Lohian Khas on February 12, PHC Noormahal on February 15, PHC Shahkot on February 17, PHC Phillaur on February 19, PHC Kala Bakra on February 22, CHC Adampur on February 24, and District Jalandhar on March 1, 2021. He said that expert doctors would physically examine the applicants during these camps following which UDID cards would be issued to the beneficiaries.
He said that specially-abled persons are an integral part of our society and no stone would be left unturned to serve them adding it was our duty to provide them with equal job and social security opportunities.
He called upon specially-abled persons to carry their Aadhar card, Voter’s ID card or any other age proof along with their passport size photo to get themselves registered for UDIC cards.
Divulging further, he said that a panel of doctors comprising orthopedic, ENT and psychiatrist physically examine the disability of applicants of UDID cards on every Tuesday and Thursday at Civil Hospital Jalandhar.
The deputy commissioner mentioned that by using the UDIC cards visually impaired persons could avail the benefit of free bus travelling besides employment opportunities, and other necessary facilities.
