The legendary South Indian actor Rajnikanth will be receiving the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2019. One of the highest honour of the film fraternity in India as mentioned by Union Minister Prakash Javedkar in his tweet. While tweeting the minister for information and broadcasting he announced the good news, “happy to announce Dadasaheb Phalke award for 2019 to one of the greatest actors in the history of Indian cinema Rajnikanth Ji. His contribution as an actor, producer and screenwriter has been iconic”.
The ceremony for the Dadasaheb Phalke awards 2019 was supposed to be announced last year but due to COVID restrictions, it was postponed. Also, the national film awards for 2019 were postponed because of that.
Jury members to select the famous south Indian actor for the award were Asha Bhonsle, Shankar Mahadevan, actor Mohanlal and Biswajeet and filmmaker Subash Ghai.

The actor who turned 70 is India’s most iconic public figure among the whole cinema. People from the south part of the country actually worship Rajnikanth, he is believed to influence public life so much. Rajnikanth made his debut in the Tamil film Apoorva Ragnal in 1975 and ever since then he has given back-to-back hits. From the long list of his hit films here are a few: Billu, Muthu, Baashha, Sivaji and enthrain. Apart from working in Tamil films, he has also made a mark in Bollywood with hits such as Hum and Chaalbaaz. In 2018, he appeared on Kaala and 2.0, in 2019 he did Petta and in 2020 his latest movie Darbar was released. Without making a further delay his has set his foot for his new project that will be Annatthe.
Rajnikanth who is already on hights in the cinema world has entered politics as well. Last year he was about to launch his own party but due to health issues, the plan has been delayed. He was hospitalized due to blood pressure fluctuations and as soon he discharged he conveyed a message to his fans saying, “with extreme sadness I say that I can’t enter politics. I alone know the pain I went through while announcing this decision. Without entering electoral politics I will serve the people. This decision will disappoint my fans but please forgive me”.
