As soon as the Punjab government allowed schools to reopen, the number of Covid cases is on the rise. At least 21 students from two government schools in Ludhiana have tested positive for Covid causing a stir in the health department and district administration.
As many as 13 students of Government High School in the Kailash Nagar area caught the infection, meanwhile, eight from government schools of the city's New Subhash Nagar area were found Covid positive. The students had been quarantined by the Health Department and schools are ordered to shut down.
The government opened schools for classes 10th to 12th on July 26th and for all classes on August 2nd. Following that, the Punjab Chief Secretary stated that daily testing will be conducted in schools.
According to the report, 41 tests were administered at Government Senior Secondary School, with 8 students testing positive. Rajesh Kumar, the school's principal, stated that there are 2200 students in the school, from 6th to 12th class. 700 primary school students are enrolled. At the same time, 700 students from kindergarten to 5th grade and 500 students from sixth to tenth grade attend Kailash Nagar High School.

Punjab reported 31 new Covid cases on August 9, bringing the total number of cases to 5,99,514 with one death bringing the total number of fatalities to 16,320. There are now 441 active cases in the state.
According to the report, 43 people have recovered, bringing the total to 5,82,753.
