Giving affirmative response to the appeal of Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori, the 26 villages of the district have earned the laurels of becoming 100-percent vaccinated.
The villages include Daduwal, Lagriyan, Dhinpur in Rurka Kalan block and Bhullar, Bhoda, Sherpur, Shampur and Rampur in Nurmahal block, Tandi, Cholang, Nangal Khurd, Dhudana, Kohja in Bhogpur block, Jania and Dashmesh Nagar in Shahkot block, Sidhpur in Lohian block, Nangal Jiwan and Chuhar, Kasampur and, Bolina in Jalandhar East and Saifabad, Bacchowal,Bhattian, Mansurpur, Tarkhanmajra, and Jandu Singha village have achieved the feat, where 100 percent vaccination of willing beneficiaries has been done. Notably, this target has been achieved through an intensive drive in rural areas in last five days.
Congratulating the villagers, Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori urged the other villages to ensure 100-percent coverage of vaccination for preventing the third wave of the pandemic. He said that the only vaccine is long term solution to tackle the pandemic and is an effective weapon to curb the virus.
Deputy Commissioner said that it was due to efforts on the ground-level healthcare workers and the panchayat members and SDM Phillaur who pursued eligible beneficiaries to get vaccinated in special camps organized.
He said that earlier there was hesitancy among the people earlier but with teams’ efforts, villagers are encouraging each other to come forward and get the jab by clearing their doubts or busting myths.
Thori said that the vaccine is like a seat belt which saves the life of the driver during the mishap and similarly, the vaccine would save the life even when one contracts the virus and would not have need hospitalization.
He added that the administration is carrying out the drive in the mission mode and many more villages would get 100-percent vaccinated in the coming days.
Deputy Commissioner also said that the administration would also send the names of these villages to the state government for issuance of the special grant of Rs 10 lakh as announced by Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh for villages with 100-percent vaccination of the villagers.
