During the hearing of a murder case on Tuesday, high-level drama ensued inside the Tiruvallur courtroom. Just like a scene from a Tamil film, the court witnessed 27 people inside the court who were staring at the witnesses to intimidate them.
One of the witnesses in the case, Gajendran, alerted the police.
"The police in the courtroom were alerted by a witness and we immediately took the 27 people into custody from the court itself," said Tiruvallur Superintendent of Police P Aravindan.
The 27 people taken into custody are students of Government Arts and Science College in Nandanam, Chennai. They were all brought to the court by a fellow student Vimal, who also happens to be the cousin of the two main accused in the case, Rajesh and Dinesh.
The case being heard was related to the murder of a brick kiln owner and his brother in Tiruvallur in 2018.
The 27 students taken into custody were first and second-year students from the college in Nandanam. The students were remanded to Puzhal Central Prison in Chennai on judicial custody for 15 days.
"The 27 students have been charged under IPC sections 195A, 447 and 147," Tiruvallur SP added.
