Jalandhar, February 2- As many as 298 candidates have filed their nomination papers on the third day of nominations for the municipal elections in the district on Tuesday.
Divulging the details, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development)-Additional District Electoral Officer Vishesh Sarangal said that 298 nominations including 23 in Adampur Municipal Council, 31 in Alawalpur Municipal Council, 55 in Kartarpur, 45 in Nakodar, 24 in Nurmahal, 35 in Phillaur, 57 in Lothian Khas and 28 in Mehatpur Nagar Panchayat where elections were scheduled to be held on February 14, 2021.
He said that total 367 candidates have filed nominations for the elections in 110 wards of six Municipal Councils and two Nagar Panchayats.
Additional deputy commissioner said that on the first day for the nominations a total of eight candidates had filed nominations and 61 on second day.
He said that the last date of filing nomination papers was February 3, 2021, adding the scrutiny would take place by February 4 and candidates can withdraw their papers by February 5, 2021.
The elections were scheduled to be held on February 14, and the result to be declared on February 17, 2021, as per the schedule, he added.
