Pune woman set herself on fire after repeated family disputes. She surrendered to her injuries on Sunday. The victim was recognized as a 33-year-old student of ayurvedic medicine, Yogita Chetan Chaudhary. She stayed with her husband Chetan Chaudhary in Pune's Pimpri-Chinchwad area.
The duo had been married for nine years and used to get into domestic disputes on a regular basis. The also nursed a nine-year-old child together. Belonging to Gujarat, Yogita was continuing a Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery from a college in Pune.
On Friday, Yogita had an argumentative dispute with her mother-in-law, following which she swallowed a pesticide. She consumed DDT, a pesticide believed to kill ants. The lady had bought the kerosene and the DDT pesticide earlier in the evening. She then rang up her husband complaining of vomiting and asked him to return home.
When Chetan came back home the couple had an argument. Yogita then proceeded to douse herself in kerosene and set herself ablaze. Chetan too got burnt in the attempt of saving her wife.
Both husband and wife experienced burns in the incident.
As per the reports, Yogita died as she had suffered 100 per cent burns while Chetan is undergoing treatment for 20 per cent burns.Yogita gave a statement to Pune police before her death.The police have recorded a case under against the husband Chetan, mother-in-law Rajani Chaudhary and her father-in-law Govind Chaudhary.
The case under Sections 306 (abetment to suicide), 498(a) (subjecting women to cruelty), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code have been filed against the three of them.
