Jalandhar: Deputy Commissioner Vishesh Sarangal on Tuesday reviewed the arrangements of 40th indian oil servo Surjit Hockey tournament in the venue.
India’s prestigious 40th Indian Surjit Hockey Tournament will be held in the Olympian Surjit Singh Hockey Stadium from October 25 to November 3.
Presiding over a meeting at Surjit Hockey Stadium, Deputy Commissioner said that the tournament was organized every year by society in the memory of Surjit Singh Randhawa, ex-Olympian & former skipper of the Indian hockey team, who lost his life in a fatal car accident near Jalandhar on January 7,1984.
He said that repair work of flood lights in outer and inside area of the stadium would be completed within two days. He also asked Sports department to ensure repair of bathrooms, whitewash and other works in this week.
Sarangal said teams of Municipal Corporation Jalandhar would ensure proper cleanliness, fogging, road carpeting around the stadium in next few days.
He said that PSPCL would ensure uninterrupted power supply during the tournament and health department would depute medical teams in the stadium.
He stated that Surjit Hockey Society was playing an important role for grooming the young players and told that this society has produced several players who have proved their mettle in national and international events. He said that society was making every effort to channelize the unbounded energy of youth in a positive manner especially in the field of sports.
The Semi-Finals & Final of the tournament will be held on November 2 and 3, 2023. The winning team will get the first prize of Rs 5.51 lakh while the runner-up will get Rs 2.50 lakh.
