PGI has saluted the spirit of a family from Barnala who agreed to donate the organs of their son. Gurjot, a four-year-old boy was admitted to the PGI hospital. Even before his fifth birthday, Gurjot left the world. Gurjot’s family is deeply saddened by the incident.
His family showed encouragement and agreed to donate his organs. Gurjot was declared brain dead by the doctors. The misfortune happened on April 2, when Gurjot was playing as usual but suddenly fell down from the height. After falling down he became unconscious and was moved to the Civil Hospital of Barnala. The doctors of Barnala Civil Hospital has referred him to PGI, Chandigarh. While admitted in PGI, Gurjot fought with death for almost a week.
On April 9, he was declared brain dead by the doctors due to a serious head injury. The doctors of PGI asked the family to donate the organs of Gurjot. His family showed encouragement and agreed to donate the child's tender organs to PGI. Hardeep Singh, the father of the child, said Who knew that Gurjot would not be able to celebrate his fifth birthday.

Gurjot’s organs have been transplanted in three patients. His liver has been transplanted in patient admitted to ILBS, Delhi. The liver was taken to Delhi Hospital via road in time and transplanted. On the other hand, Gurjot's kidneys and pancreas have been transplanted in 2 patients in PGI itself.
