Chandigarh: A 54-year-old woman from Uttar Pradesh was gang-raped by eight men near Karnal railway station on Saturday.
A police team rushed to the spot. She was admitted to the local hospital, where doctors treated her in the initial hours. Later she was referred to the PGI Chandigarh where she is currently undergoing treatment.
Police said the woman was reportedly waiting for the train at the Karnal railway station when a man offered her to share food with him. Once she agreed, the man accompanied her to a factory shed not far from the railway station where seven other men were already waiting for them.

They took turns in raping her and thrashed her with an iron rod when she resisted. In her statement to investigators, the woman said the men abandoned her at the factory shed and fled. She somehow managed to drag herself to a phone booth and called the police.
A police investigation into the matter is underway and efforts are being made to identify the culprits on the basis of a statement by the survivor.
