  • Don't communalise corona crisis: The whole world is battling the novel coronavirus. But it seems India is fighting Muslims in the time of coronavirus, if we were to go by the loudest and most popular television channels and social media discourse. “Corona Jihad” was trending on April 1; on April 2, “Muslim means terrorist” was a top trend. There is an explosion of fake news about Muslims “deliberately” spreading the virus. Add to this the daily official pronouncements which have reinforced the narrative that if not for the Tablighi Jamaat, India COVID-19 curve was doing fine.
  • This is not law & order problem:If India wants to create a meaningful response to the crisis, we need to pool in and mobilise all the resources we have in the country. This needs to start at the top with the government, and percolate down to cover every public, private, and civil society actor. The government needs to recognise that this is completely unprecedented – nothing less than a war –and that while they have taken some steps to combat this, the sheer magnitude of the problem means that these alone won’t be enough.
  • Zero tolerance for violence on women: The National Commission for Women (NCW), which receives complaints of domestic violence from across the country, has recorded more than twofold rise in gender-based violence in the national Coronavirus lockdown period. The total complaints from women rose from 116 in the first week of March (March 2-8), to 257 in the final week (March 23-April 1).
  • No one will die of hunger:Millions of migrant workers in India are uniquely vulnerable to homelessness during the pandemic.

Govt's plans to:

  • Revive economy
  • Revive public health system
  • Cash transfer for the needy
