As per government directions to ensure 'Ease of Living' for the central government pensioners, banks will now send monthly pension slips via emails, SMS and WhatsApp. The retired central government employees will no longer need to visit the bank to get pension slips.
According to the Central Government’s Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, pensioners' registered mobile number will be used to send pension slips electronically.
The digital pension slip will include full details of the monthly pension. Information of any break-up of the amount credited and tax deductions will be provided as well.
In an office memorandum dated June 22, 2021, the Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare stated that “To ensure ‘Ease of Living’ of the Pensioners, a meeting was held with the CPPCs of Pension Disbursing Banks on 15.06.2021. During the meeting, the issue of providing the breakup of monthly pension to the pensioners was discussed.”
Further, it was added that ‘the banks compelled to implement this welfare measure, as pensioners require this information in connection with Income Tax, Dearness Relief payment, DR arrears and so on. The banks have welcomed the idea and expressed a willingness to share the information.”
Central government employees' salaries and pensions are disbursed on the basis of the Seventh Pay Commission. This significant step by the government will make it easier for retirees to comply with income tax and will assist in learning about DR (Dearness Relief) and DR arrears and other 7th pay commission allowances.
