In a pursuit to put a hold on Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) chief Masood Azhar, US, UK and France informally asked the Chinese counterpart to lift their pseudo vote on the resolution terming Azhar as a global terrorist.
According to a western diplomat, China has been given an ultimatum to lift their pseudo vote and also has given a tentative time till April 23 to lift the hold before a proposal for banning Azhar is officially and directly introduced in the council, bypassing the 1267 committee.

United Nation Security Council (UNSC) adopted resolution 1267 in 1999 and it was this resolution that designated Osama bin Laden and associates as terrorists.
A parallel resolution has already been distributed among the 15 member states informally but not on table, allowing China to reconsider its stand on Azhar.
The council members have also invited China for a public debate, to clarify the reason behind their support to terrorist like Azhar.
However, Chinese ambassador Luo Zhaohui has given his consent for an open debate with India on the issue of Azhar. In a statement he said, “On the issue of listing in the 1267 Committee of the UN Security Council, China attaches importance to and understands India concern and is willing to strengthen communication with India to find a proper solution.”
