Dehradun: Prior to the Lok Sabha Elections 2019 results on May 23, PM Modi visited Hindu shrine Kedarnath on Saturday. He spent his entire night meditating in a cave. However, the modified cave situated near the Kedarnath shrine at 12,000 feet above the sea level, is no ordinary cave.
Built by cutting the rocks, the natural cave situated a kilometre ahead of the main shrine, has a well-lit room with an attached washroom, a window and over ten feet high ceiling. The cave offers a spectacular view of the ancient temple.
As per an official of Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (NIM), the cave was ready much before the PM visit and all the arrangements, like power and water, were made. After months of cutting the rocks and stones, the cave was finally ready last year but was locked.
To strengthen security arrangements, the cave also has a CCTV system for the PM visit. The CCTV is being monitored by security personnel who are deployed outside the cave in a makeshift camp.
Another district official said, “The cave has room for one bed and open space on the ground for meditation. After the opening portion of the cave, comes the main door.”
As per a priest of Kedarnath temple, Bhagwat Bhagwari, “The PM decision to meditate in the cave near the Kedarnath temple would inspire lakhs of people to come here and meditain this pious and serene atmosphere.”
