Big Boss season 5 contestant Pooja Bedi persuades on initiating the #MenToo movement. The former actress shelters her best friend TV actor Karan Oberoi. She explained that Karan Oberoi has been arrested for "rape & extortion" in her recent write-up in the print.
A press conference was held in support of Karan Oberoi, who was arrested on Sunday on charges of rape and extortion leveled against him by a fashion designer-and-healer. Karan sister Gurbani Oberoi, his best friend Pooja Bedi, and the members of A Band Of Boys — the Indipop band that Karan is a part of together addressed the media in his support.
Pooja Bedi, in her column written for English daily, said that the facts highlighted in the public were that they had met on a dating app and in October 2018, Karan filed an NC against the woman for harassment. In an interview to the media, the woman reported about bad financial condition of Karan owing to which she showered him with gifts, done up his apartment, and also felt bad to pressurize him for marriage.

Bedi added that nevertheless, this week in May 2019 she filed a case of rape and extortion, professing it happened sometime in January 2017. Statements in her interview in November 2018 hold a tremendous variance to her FIR in May 2019 in which says the "alleged" crime took place in 2017. The case cannot be proven fake unless otherwise but the lady lodged the FIR the day the Bombay high court went on holiday so that Karan could not apply for bail for a month.
Following this, she adds that the social media and the press highlighted the same with embarrassing comments for Karan. The use of hashtags like #Rapist made him loose his reputation, damage his career, put his family in turmoil, the physical distress given conditions of lock up and the infinite list goes on. She further wrote that the worst part was that even when the police knew the man was innocent; it still had to take action based on the FIR. Peculiar enough was when Karan and she were both sent for medical tests even though the alleged incident happened 2.5 years ago, since it's the process legally.
Bedi makes a point here when she says, “This brings into focus the increasing need to focus on men's rights as a human rights issue as well. I'm all for women's rights and come from a family of strong, dynamic, liberated women who have heralded change and reform for women. I firmly stand in support of men's rights and the beginning of a #MenToo movement.”
Bedi strongly feels that the nation need laws against rape and violence; but at the same time, if a severe number of women are misusing the law, there needs to be measures adopted to think about how to protect the right of a man at the same time.
Hoping for a bail, Karan's lawyer, advocate Dinesh Tiwari was reported saying, "Though it will be little tougher for first few days but considering the fact that we have all the evidence to prove that my client is innocent, we should get him bailed."
