An emeritus scientist, Dr. SK Salwan, who once closely worked with the former President of our country APJ Abdul Kalam passed away today. Dr. Salwan was the one who was appointed as the Emeritus Scientist Defence Research and Development Organization (Dr.DO) by the president of India in the year 2003.
After completing his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Bombay he trained students and worked with ‘The College of Military Engineering in Pune. He had 14 years of teaching experience to graduates, post-graduates, PhD research work for Mechanical, and Armament Engineering. Dr. Salwan also served as Asst. Professor in Production Technology, Design Engineering and later became the head of the Institute of Armament Technology.
Dr. Salwan was a close associate of Dr. Kalam, he became a part of the team that developed Agni, Prithvi, Trishul, Akash and Nag missiles. Before being appointed as the vice-chancellor of IKGPTU and Vice-Chancellor Designate of Apeejay Stya University, he was a BOG member as well. He was also recognized as a post-graduate teacher and guide for Mechanical Engineering at Pune University, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Bombay, Punjab Technical University, and Jalandhar.

In his lifetime, he had the privilege to become distinguished faculty of various organizations like the Royal Military College of Science, UK. Then he also became faculty of South Australian University, National University Singapore, and Defense Colleges.
The news of his demise is extremely saddening as he was a courageous man, who never faltered in his determination and commitment to his goals. His great knowledge and training of his students will always be remembered.
