24 hours before the counting of votes for Tripura district council elections, Tripura’s Indigenous Peoples Regional Alliance (TIPRA) chief and royal scion Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debarmma was attacked by a group of wrongdoers at Mohanpur’s Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s (SDM) office.
The members of the political party TIPRA and SDM office were also pelted with stones by the hooligans. This whole incident took place in front of the security guards there.
Previously, violence and tensions were reported at Mohanpur. The Superintendent of Police of West Tripura, Manik Lal Das told that the investigation is going on and the miscreants will be soon under custody.
SP told that “Kishore went to SDM’s office where there he might be got involved in an argument. But he has reached back to his home safely and the situation is under control.”
In the evening, Debarmma told that “Some armed goons made their way to SDM’s office forcefully to attack me and the members of TIPRA. I had gone to enquire about the credentials of the party’s counting agents for Saturday’s counting process.” He added that “Let us fight the Tripura elections 2021 politically without physically attacking me or any other member, and let’s see who has the support of people of Tripura.”
He also added that “Chief Minister Bilap Kumar Deb and Director General of Police VS Yadav had called me to know my condition after the attack and assured that a speedy action will be taken against those who are behind the attack, they will be punished as soon as possible”

He floated his own political party this year and fielded candidates in 23 out of 28 seats of Tribal Council polls which were conducted on Tuesday. After that Debarmma showed confidence that he will win the Tripura Autonomous District Council (ADC) election 2021 with a clear majority on April 10.
Polls of TTAADC were held on Tuesday at 1244 polling stations for 28 elected seats in the 30-member tribal council.
