The Jalandhar Municipal Corporation elections have taken a significant turn, with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) moving closer to the majority required to claim the mayor’s post. After securing 39 seats in the elections, AAP was four seats short of the 43-seat majority.
Support from Independent and Congress Councillors
In a major breakthrough, AAP leaders have garnered the support of one independent councillor and one Congress councillor, raising the party’s tally to 41. Senior party leaders played a crucial role in ensuring this alignment through consistent efforts and negotiations.
Independent candidate winner from Ward 81 Seema Badhan and Congress candidate from Ward 65 Parveen Wasan have joined AAP.
Local Body Minister Dr. Ravjot Singh, were present while the councillors joined the AAP.
Two More Councillors Needed
With just two more councillors required to secure the majority, AAP is poised to create a significant impact on Jalandhar’s civic administration. The political activity in the city continues to intensify as the party works to consolidate its position.
