With the completion of the Jalandhar MC Elections, the city is witnessing an exodus of councillors from different parties. Aam Aadmi Party became the single largest party in Jalandhar MC Elections by securing 38 seats out of 85. This means that AAP fell short of the majority mark of 43.
The majority mark will ensure that the Mayor of Jalandhar will be from Aam Aadmi Party. As a result, councillors from other parties and independent candidate winners are joining AAP. As per sources in the known development, 4 to 5 councillors from the Congress and BJP are most likely to join the Aam Aadmi Party today.
The party will automatically enjoy the majority if 4 to 5 councillors join AAP. Thereafter, it can nominate its candidate for the Mayor post. Notably, on Sunday evening, 2 councillors joined the party pushing its winning seats tally to 40. Independent candidate winner from Ward 81 Seema Badhan and Congress candidate from Ward 65 Parveen Wasan joined AAP. Local Body Minister Dr. Ravjot Singh was present while the councillors joined the AAP.
