Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) pulled off a spectacular victory in the Punjab assembly elections. All political heavyweights contesting against AAP have lost.
TrueScoop had an exclusive interview with Ashwani Gupta, Certified Public Accountant in Jalandhar. He shared his views on AAP's victory in Punjab.
What do you think about the result? Did you expect it?
They are in line with the expectation but the numbers are much higher than the expectations. This was expected that the trend will be there, that AAP may be the leading party, Congress may be the next and all these are okay and in the same trend but the numbers have greatly been in favour of AAP. These numbers were not expected.
Do you think Punjab’s industry/education has hope now that AAP is in power? What will be the projected impact on the industry?
Every time there is a change, a team with a new vision tries to bring some kind of a new system because I personally feel that every political party actually works for the welfare of the people, for industry and everything. But, sometimes we see because of some less mandate or some other reasons they are not able to achieve it. I’m sure they’ll have enough leverage with this huge mandate to implement whatever things they want unless they become complacent.
Do you think AAP will deliver its promises?
Look there are certain promises that are political, there are certain promises which are regarding structural and governance improvements. I don’t doubt any political party’s will to implement. It depends on the resources. The resources are the important thing. AAP with such a huge mandate has a greater liability to meet the promises which they have made but how far because of the limitation of finance and how good they can manage the finance, that is a question to be seen in the coming time.
