The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab is facing opposition from its MLA. This protest is about the appointment in the police department. And there is no one else to oppose, Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh turned MLA from IPS.
He has opposed Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann's decision to appoint two senior IPS officers, Prabodh Kumar as Special DGP (Intelligence) and Arun Pal Singh as Amritsar Police Commissioner. He expressed his opposition through a Facebook post. But later changed the post.
While Arun Pal Singh, a 1997-batch IPS officer, was on Saturday posted as the Amritsar Police Commissioner in a reshuffle.
The Punjab government on March 25 appointed 1988-batch IPS officer Special DGP Prabodh Kumar as the new intelligence chief of the state has done. AAP's Amritsar North MLA Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh objected to the decision of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
In April last year, the Punjab and Haryana High Court had ordered the quashing of an investigation conducted by the SIT. Aam Aadmi Party MLA Kunwar Vijay Pratap was also a part of it.
This SIT was probing two cases of police firing on people protesting the sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib in Kotkapura and Bahibal Kalan in Faridkot district in 2015.
After the order of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, Kunwar Vijay Pratap resigned from the job of IPS and joined the Aam Aadmi Party.
In a Facebook post late on Saturday night, Kunwar Vijay Pratap wrote, 'On the widespread demand of the common people.
I have requested to reconsider the posting of two police officers who were part of the then SIT and two big political families on the appropriate party forum were in favour.
Both these officers are responsible for not getting justice in the Bargari-Behbal-Kotakpura case. I was third in SIT.
Number one is positioned as the chief of intelligence, the most powerful position in the police department. Number two has been rewarded as the Commissioner of Police of the holy city of Amritsar.
Kunwar Vijay Pratap also told about his resignation given last year during this period. He wrote that on April 9 last year, he had resigned from the IPS. This was not a normal resignation.
Therefore, I have requested the appropriate party forum to reconsider both these recent postings.
I have also requested the Hon'ble Chief Minister through a letter citing the specific points to be done by our AAP government to get justice in the Bargadi cases.
Whereas AAP had put up posters all over the state after Kunwar Vijay Pratap joined the party. He was not given any important responsibility in the party's government.
Kunwar Vijay Pratap further wrote in this post that no one should politicize the issue of sacrilege. He writes that those who did politics on the issue of sacrilege were punished by the 'best court'.
Guru Gobind Singh Ji has punished two big political families of Punjab, who were jealous of my resignation.
These two families will never come into the political field of Punjab state. People, in general, have high expectations from our AAP government to give 'complete justice' in the Bargari-Behbal-Kotakpura case.
