A police inspector's vehicle on Monday morning mowed down two girls on Phagwara-Jalandhar Highway, while one of the girls died on the spot; the other one was seriously injured and is undergoing treatment at a local hospital here.
Expressing his heartfelt condolences and sympathy with the bereaved family, Youth Congress President Jalandhar Urban Angad Datta demanded strict action in this matter. He has also demanded the dismissal of Inspector.
Angad Datta said that the action must be taken under IPC 302 for the murder of the girl in this case. Angad said that whether the wrongdoer is a police officer or a common man, the law is the same for all.
According to media reports, Punjab Police inspector Amrit Pal Singh was driving the Hoshiarpur number Vehicle. He has been arrested now. He is currently posted at Harike Pattan. The incident took place Monday morning at Dhanewali Village on the Jalandhar-Phagwara highway. Seeing this local people stopped traffic and blocked the highway causing a traffic jam.
Angad Dutta said that youth congress has full sympathy with the family of the deceased girl.
He said that the CCTV Footage has been released in which the girls can be clearly seen taking a step back after seeing the vehicle approaching towards them, however the car still rammed into them.

“It is a clear case of murder and should be treated as such. The punishment should be given as per law”, he said while adding that Youth congress demands a proper action in this matter. The police inspector must be dismissed with immediate effect
