The first Monday decides the real trajectory of any film at the box office and now, the fate is sealed for the big-budget epic Adipurush as it saw a gigantic fall at the box office which almost everyone was aware of but the magnitude of the fall was something that nobody anticipated as the film fell over 75% from its opening day. After the excellent opening weekend the film got due to star power and anticipation, the first Monday is reflective of how much the audience has appreciated the film and Adipurush is no different as it shows that the film has been rejected all over. Tweets in which people shared screenshots of cancelling their tickets surfaced on Twitter from the very first day which even resulted in the film seeing drops on both Saturday and Sunday, both of them being the best performing days for the cinemas as they are free days for the majority of the population.
The film, which collected 36 crores nett on its opening day in its Hindi version, became the second-highest opening day for an original Hindi film post-pandemic and ended up collecting over 100 crores nett in its weekend. This number could have been way better had the product been appreciated. This number went down to a dismal 8.5 crores nett (early estimates) on its first Monday which is the real acid test for any film. The combined all-India number for the film including all languages is 20 crores nett, which is lower than Shah Rukh Khan's mega-blockbuster Pathaan's first Monday which collected 26.5 crores predominantly from its original Hindi version meanwhile Adipurush is a bilingual shot in Hindi and Telugu which is dubbed in other South Indian languages too and for comparison, Pathaan was dubbed in only Tamil and Telugu and majority collections for that film from South India came from its original Hindi version only.
Adipurush OTT Release: When and where to watch the epic
This marks another underperformer for the Hindi film industry which has had a bleak year once again with only 3 films getting a Hit and above tag in 6 months. Adipurush has no major competition from Bollywood except Satyaprem Ki Katha for the next month and the only major competitors for the film till Rocky aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani on 28th July for the month are the Hollywood biggies Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning- Part One, Oppenheimer and Barbie, all of them catering to a different audience from Adipurush and having an audience in metros and A-centres only. Despite the lack of biggies, Adipurush's future still looks bleak on paper as the damage has been done with the first Monday. Fairly enough, the film will still end up becoming the 3rd highest-grossing original Hindi film in the country for the year even if it fails to cross the 150 crore mark.
