AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) describes a system that can learn to accomplish any intellectual task that human beings can perform. And can perform these tasks better. According to the alternative definition provided by Stanford’s Institute for Human-Centred Artificial Intelligence defines AGI as “broadly intelligent, context-aware machines . . . needed for effective social chatbots or human-robot interaction.”

On the other hand, the consulting company Gartner defines Artificial General Intelligence “as a form of AI that possesses the ability to understand, learn, and apply knowledge across a wide range of tasks and domains. It can be applied to a much broader set of use cases and incorporates cognitive flexibility, adaptability, and general problem-solving skills.”

Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook, is one of the proponents of AGI. He said that AGI could help solve many of humanity’s biggest problems, including disease, poverty climate change, etc.

People are already threatened due to the misuse of AI, and about AGI there is still a threat in people about its misuse. AGI is a threat to humanity and mankind. One such critic is the late Stephen Hawking, who warned that the AGI could potentially outsmart and overpower humans, leading to a catastrophic outcome. Hawking argued that AGI would be able to improve itself at an exponential rate, leading to an intelligence explosion that humans would not be able to keep up with.

Even Elon Musk, the founder of Tesla and SpaceX shares Hawking concern about AGI that it can lead to “existential threat” to Human beings.

AGI could be used as a weapon, with countries and organizations using it to gain an advantage over others as suggested by Elon Musk. Gartner quoted by Fudzilla stated that artificial general intelligence (AGI) is at least a decade away if it ever happens. Gartner suggests that the whole concept was worth even researching. AGI has become a contentious issue in recent years, with developers of large language models (LLMs) like OpenAI making claims about their progress towards human-like intelligence.
