One day before Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Punjab, a Hindu leader hailing from the Shivsena party was shot dead in broad daylight in Amritsar. Sudhir Kumar Suri, the Shiv Sena leader was shot at around 3:30 pm near Gopal Mandir on Friday. Reportedly, he was shot while the leader was protesting against Hindu gods and goddess idols found in a dustbin a few days back. Reportedly, Sudhir Kumar Suri was on the hit list of Pro-Khalistan elements for the past few months. Notably, the police have arrested the suspect, who has been identified as Sandeep Singh.
Notably, after the Shiv Sena leader's murder, people started protesting against the administration and also tried to vandalise shops. Tensions have been prevailing in Punjab just a day before PM Modi's visit. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will pay a visit to Punjab on 5 November 2022. He will reach Dera Radha Soami Beas and his meeting with Dera Mukhi Gurinder Singh Dhillon is also on cards. Reportedly, the meeting will take place in a totally personalized manner for 1-1.5 hrs. Furthermore, the head of Dera Radha Soami was not well and got himself treated in Singapore and PM Modi was planning to meet him for a long time. Notably, Beas is approximately 42 kilometers from Amritsar and the murder of a Hindu leader has yet again sparked tension in the state.

Notably, multiple videos are doing rounds on social media which were filmed during the murder of Sudhir Suri. In the video, Sudhir can be seen collapsing while he was agitating with other leaders against the sacrilege of Hindu idols. As soon as he was shot, people panicked and one man with the Shiv Sena leader was also seen cross-firing at the miscreants, however, they escaped from the spot.

Reportedly, the accused shot 2 bullets at Sudhir while he was on dharna. His supporters were also present there when the incident took place. Explaining the incident, witnesses told that as he was on a protest, someone suddenly fired on him after which he was taken to the Escort Hospital by his security personnel. Police reveal that some unidentified youths came near Gopal Mandi, and opened fire on Sudhir Kumar Suri. Soon after this, he was taken to the hospital where he was declared dead.
