In a landmark move for Indian aviation, Air India has become the first airline in the country to introduce in-flight Wi-Fi services on domestic routes, marking a significant leap in passenger experience. Until now, travelers on domestic routes, have made a significant leap in passenger experience. Until now, travelers on domestic flights in India had to disconnect from the digital world once the cabin doors closed. However, starting January 1, 2025, passengers aboard Air India’s select fleet can stay connected at 35,000 feet.
Air India’s Wi-Fi services will initially be available on Airbus A350, Boeing 787-9, and selected Airbus A32neo aircraft. “From January 1, 2025, passengers can access Wi-Fi services aboard Air India’s A350, B787-9, and selected A321neo aircraft, with complimentary access during the initial phase,” said the airline in a press statement.
The airline emphasized that this initiative positions Air India as the pioneer in offering seamless connectivity on domestic flights. Passengers will be able to browse websites, use social media platforms, connect business activities, and stay in touch with their loved ones while crushing above 10,000 feet.
“Connectivity is now an integral part of modern travel. For some, it's about the convenience and comfort of real-time sharing, while for others, it is about greater productivity and efficiency. Whatever one’s purpose, we are confident that our guests will appreciate having the option of connecting to the web and enjoy the new Air India experience on board these aircraft,” said Rajesh Dogra, Chief Customer Experience Officer, Air India.
The service is designed to support multiple devices, including laptops, tablets, and smartphones running iOS or Android, enabling passengers to stay connected across different platforms simultaneously. The complimentary services will gradually be expanded to cover more aircraft in the airline’s fleet.
The most comes after successful trials on international routes to New York, London, Paris, and Singapore using Airbus A350, selected Airbus A321neo, and Boeing B787-9 aircraft. Now domestic flyers can also experience this cutting-edge feature.
However, Air India clarified that the quality and availability of Wi-Fi connections may depend on factors such as satellite connectivity, bandwidth usage, and route-specific government restrictions.
