A recent incident involving a sharp metal blade found in an Air India in-flight meal has sparked concerns over the airline's food safety standards. The alarming discovery was made by a passenger, Mathurs Paul, who shared his harrowing experience on social media, prompting a swift response from the Tata Group-owned airline.
The incident occurred when Paul, a passenger on an Air India flight, found a sharp metal piece in his meal. "Air India food can cut like a knife. Hiding in its roasted sweet potato and fig chaat was a metal piece that looked like a blade. I got a feel of it only after chewing the grub for a few seconds. Thankfully, no harm was done," Paul recounted in his post. He further expressed concerns about the potential dangers, especially if such an object had been served to a child.
Responding to the incident, Air India's Chief Customer Experience Officer, Rajesh Dogra, confirmed the presence of the metal blade in the meal and identified its source. "Air India confirms that a foreign object was found in the meal of a guest aboard one of our flights. After investigation, it has been identified as coming from the vegetable processing machine used at the facilities of our catering partner," Dogra stated.
To prevent similar incidents in the future, Air India has implemented enhanced safety measures. These include more frequent inspections of the vegetable processing equipment, especially after cutting hard vegetables. "We have worked with our catering partner to strengthen measures to prevent any recurrence, including more frequent checking of the processor," Dogra added.
This incident follows another recent complaint about Air India's service quality. A business class passenger, Vineeth K, reported a delayed flight and poor in-flight conditions, including substandard food and unclean seats.
