In a recent statement, Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh criticized the authorities for stopping Kirandeep Kaur, the wife of fugitive radical preacher Amritpal Singh, from boarding a flight to the UK. The incident took place at an airport in Amritsar, where Kaur was heading to her parental home. The Jathedar stated that stopping Kaur was not right from any angle and that the government should not create an atmosphere of panic in the region. Singh pointed out that Kaur is a British national who had not committed any crime, and if the government wished to ask or inquire anything from her, they should respectfully visit her residence.

Singh married Kaur, a UK-based Non-Resident Indian, on February 10, and since then, the police have visited Kaur's house numerous times and questioned her and her family. Moreover, Singh and members of his outfit 'Waris Punjab De' were booked under several criminal cases related to spreading disharmony among classes, attempt to murder, attack on police personnel, and creating obstructions in the lawful discharge of duty by public servants.

Despite the crackdown against Singh and his aides, the radical preacher remains elusive, and a manhunt to nab him is underway. The 'Anand Karaj' (marriage as per Sikh rituals) was held with a limited gathering of family members from both sides at a gurdwara in Baba Bakala in Amritsar.
