Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar was seen at the polling booth casting his vote during the fifth phase of Lok Sabha elections 2024. He flaunted his inked finger and talked to the media outside the polling booth, expressing his happiness after casting his vote for the first time. Akshay Kumar had received his Indian Citizenship in August last year. Before that, the actor had a Canadian citizenship.
Talking to the media, Akshay said that “I want my India to remain developed and strong. Keeping that in mind, I have voted accordingly and I urge everyone to vote.” Talking about the voter turnout, Akshay believes that the turnout will be good saying, “I have been here since 7 (AM) and I saw around 500–600 voters already so, yes, I believe it will be good.”
Akshay Kumar's Indian Citizenship
Earilier Akshay Kumar had applied for a Canadian citizenship in the 1990s after a lot of his films performed poorly at the box office in a row. He had gone to Canada to work with a friend in the cargo business after the failure of his movies at the box office. However, following his success in India, he had applied for an Indian citizenship in 2019. The process took longer than expected due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.
After getting his Indian citizenship in August, Akshay Kumar had posted a picture of his documents on social media with the caption, “Dil aur citizenship, dono Hindustani. Happy Independence Day! Jai Hind!” Akshay had received his citizenship on August 15, 2023.
Lok Sabha Elections 2024 fifth phase
In the fifth phase of India general elections 2024, voting is taking place today on 49 seats in 6 states and 2 union territories. These included the 13 Lok Sabha seats of Maharashtra. Along with Akshay Kumar, several other Bollywood celebrities were seen casting their vote in the fifth phase of Indian general elections such as Jahnvi Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao and Farhan Akhthar among others.
