Entire Pakistan's sports & business fraternity went into shock after the owner of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Multan Sultans- Alamgir Tareen allegedly shot himself and died by suicide leaving behind a suicide note on July 6. Alamgir Tareen's suicide has indeed shocked the entire Pakistan and he has been trending in India as well. As per reports, Alamgir Tareen died by suicide at his home in Lahore's Gulberg area on 6 July. Alamgir Tareen was an alumni of the prestigious Yale University, Alamgir. He established a name for himself as a leading businessman in South Punjab (Pakistan) and operated one of the largest water purification plants in the country. He was also the brother of Istehkam-i-Pakistan Party Chairman Jahangir Khan Tareen. Notably, the Pakistani Police has not revealed Alamgir Tareen's suicide reason, but local media has reported that he left behind a suicide note which is not with the Police.
Although the Pakistani Police are trying to keep the investigation under wraps, a prominent news portal stated that Alamgir Tareen in his suicide note mentioned the ‘endless list of illnesses’ and hence it might be the reason why the Multan Sultan owner took his own life. Notably, Police found him dead with a pistol and a suicide note. The Pakistani Police has recover the suicide weapon- a Glock Pistol. As per the initial investigation, reports suggest that Alamgir fired a shot in the right temple of his head and the bullet left a deep hole on the other side, causing his instant death. Notably, no torture mark or trails of violence have been witnessed and therefore no foul play has come to the fore as of now.
Lahore Operations DIG Nasir Rizvi was quoted by local media saying, "We were alerted by the domestic help [of Alamgir] on Thursday morning when he visited the room of his employer at upper storey of the house and found him in a pool of blood." Notably, Alamgir was living alone at his house since he was unmarried. Before going to bed at 9 pm, he had a meeting with one of his employees.

Multan Sultan shared Alamgir's photo and stated that he was "a sports enthusiast who wanted to work towards establishing a solid platform for aspiring sportsmen and women and to provide them with the best possible resources to further develop their skills". In 2021, Multan Sultan had won the PSL title for the first time after beating Peshawar Zalmi in the final.
