Several factors including win-ability, single ticket in a family, etc will be followed while deciding the seats for upcoming assembly polls in Punjab, confirmed Sunil Jakhar, former Punjab unit chief and in-charge 2022 election campaign committee, after Punjab Congress Screening committee’s meeting in Delhi on Wednesday evening.
Punjab Congress president Navjot Singh Sidhu also said “all is well” after attending the meeting. This was followed after media reports suggested that there are internal conflicts within Punjab Congress ahead of the upcoming assembly polls over the seat distribution.
After reportedly some members were unhappy with Sidhu, who was projecting himself as the Chief Ministerial candidate from Congress for 2022 elections, a meeting was held in Delhi to discuss all the major matters. The meeting was attended by Punjab Congress chief, Navjot Singh Sidhu, Ajay Maken, Sunil Jakhar and others.
Several things were discussed in the meeting, which Jakhar revealed.
“Winability, single ticket in a family, fielding senior leaders from the seats that they have won earlier, etc are many factors,” Congress leader Sunil Jakhar in Delhi said about the discussions held in the meeting.
Jakhar also confirmed that the final decision will be made by Sonia Gandhi-chaired CEC.
“Today, discussion on seats was held but the final list will be released by CEC headed by Sonia Gandhi,” he said.

Navjot Singh Sidhu, having shown disagreement with current Punjab CM Charanjit Channi on several occasions, is seeing himself as the CM candidate. However, many Punjab Congress leaders had expressed concern with him.
“Sidhu usually begins his public address by saying, ‘I did this, and I will do this’. The 'we' team spirit is missing,” a senior Congress leader was quoted as saying by India Today.
“Sidhu openly declared Ashwani Shekhadi and Navtej Cheema to be the party's nominees in Sultanpur Lodhi and Batala respectively. What is the point of announcing the election committees when the tickets will be distributed in this manner?” He added.
