Union Home Minister Amit Shah had held an urgent meeting with top security and police officials today to review the security situation after the farmer's tractor parade turned violent and even reached Red Fort.
Shah was briefed about the clashes that were witnessed at various parts of the city after thousands of protesting farmers broke in barricades, deviating from the agreed routes.
Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla and Delhi Police Commissioner SN Srivastava were present in the high-level meeting.
The meeting could lead to big decisions on security said sources, adding that there’s a possibility that paramilitary forces can be deployed.
Internet services have been suspended in parts of Delhi and its neighbourhood.
As the nation celebrated Republic Day in the morning, farmers protesting against the three farm laws entered Delhi from various border points, knocking down police barricades long before the time that had been agreed upon for their tractor march in the capital.
There were clashes between farmers and cops at several spots. Police fired tear gas shells on the farmers, while farmers were seen trying running tractors over police personnel and attacking them.
