The Maharashtra Police's Raigad unit on Wednesday morning raided the home of Republic TV owner and arrested its Chief Editor Arnab Goswami in an abetment to suicide case. A senior police officer Sachin Vaze said that Goswami was arrested in the abetment to suicide case of 2018, which had been closed earlier and has now been reopened.
Reports also state that the Police physically assaulted Arnab Goswami in front of his family. He was even dragged by his hair. Now the Central government ministers have started to slam the Maharashtra State Government.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah slammed the Congress and the Shiv Sena for taking such a step against Arnab Goswami. Amit Shah took to Twitter and wrote, "Congress and its allies have shamed democracy once again. Blatant misuse of state power against Republic TV & Arnab Goswami is an attack on individual freedom and the 4th pillar of democracy. It reminds us of the Emergency. This attack on free press must be and WILL BE OPPOSED."
