Just two weeks ahead of Assembly polls in the Congress-ruled Punjab, party leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday announced incumbent Charanjit Singh Channi as the party's chief ministerial face for the polls.
State party Chief Navjot Singh Sidhu, who was in the race, hugged Channi on the stage as Gandhi announced his name after over 45 minutes of his speech, televised across the 117 Assembly seats.
"It is Punjab's decision. It is not my decision. I didn't decide. I asked workers, candidates, MLAs, people, youth of Punjab. What people said has led me to my final decision," said Gandhi during his address at the 'Aawaz Punjab Di' virtual rally.
“During 17 years of a political career, Sidhu never lived for any post, but always wanted Punjab's betterment and improvement in lives of its people, “said Navjot Singh Sidhu.
Amarinder Singh, former CM of Punjab, makes fun of Sidhu. His party posted a picture in which Sidhu’s face can be seen covered with a shawl, captioning it as, “a picture is worth a thousand words.”
The political war between Captain and Sidhu is known to everyone. Due to elections, the atmosphere has heated up. Captain Amarinder Singh has formed his own party Punjab Lok Congress and he himself will be contesting the elections from Patiala.
