Amritpal Singh to remain in jail as NSA on Khadoor Sahib MP extended by 1 year

Amritpal Singh's NSA has been extended by at least 1 year despite multiple requests from his supporters from the Government citing his Lok Sabha Elections 2024 performance.

In a major development, the National Security Act (NSA) imposed on Pro Khalistan leader & Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh has been extended As per reports, Amritpal Singh's NSA has been extended by at least 1 year despite multiple requests from his supporters from the Government citing his Lok Sabha Elections 2024 performance. The order has been implemented on Amritpal as well as all his 9 companions. At present, Amritpal Singh is lodged in Dibrugarh jail in Assam along with his companions. 

As per reports, these orders were issued on June 3, two days after the Lok Sabha elections and a day before the results. At present, even the family and Amritpal's lawyer are not fully aware of this. Amritpal Singh's lawyer reportedly said that the efforts are on to get Amritpal Singh out of NSA.

Amritpal has been in Dibrugarh jail under NSA since March 2023. NSA is a law that allows the government to detain individuals for up to 12 months without formal charges. However, Amritpal Singh has been in jail for more than a year now. Before the elections, the family made several attempts to shift Amritpal Singh and his 9 companions to Punjab, which failed. Finally, the family tried to field Amritpal Singh in the Lok Sabha elections. Surprisingly, the people of Khadur Sahib rejected the traditional parties to such an extent that Amritpal won by a margin of 1.97 lakh votes.

On June 15, 20924, the Shiromani Akali Dal-Fateh group, met with the President of India to advocate for Amritpal Singh. The delegation protested against Amritpal Singh's exclusion from the parliamentary proceedings and urged the President to respect Amritpal's position as an elected member of parliament. A formal demand letter was submitted to the President during the meeting.
