The Lok Sabha Election Results 2024 was announced on June 4 and the BJP failed to win even a single seat in Punjab. On the other hand, radical Sikh preacher Amritpal Singh won the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 as an Independent candidate. Amritpal Singh won from the Khadoor Sahib constituency by a margin of 1,97,120 votes over his nearest rival and Congress candidate Kulbuir Singh Zira. Amritpal Singh won the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 in Punjab by the highest margin. However, the Waris Punjab De Chief is currently lodged in Dibrugarh Jail in Assam over National Security Act (NSA) and sedition charges.
Recently, Amritpal Singh's family reached Dibrugarh jail. Amritpal's wife Kirandeep Kaur is already present in Dibrugarh, Assam. Meanwhile, Amritpal's family pictures have surfaced, in which her mother was seen distributing sweets to security officers and cops present at the Dibrugarh Jail.
Amritpal Singh's parents reached the jail with their MP son's victory certificate. Before this, his lawyer Rajdev Singh Khalsa met Amritpal. Advocate Khalsa had told that from jail, Amritpal Singh said that he is very grateful to the association of Halka Khadoor Sahib, who gave him the mandate after winning the election. Regarding NSA on Amritpal Singh and his release from jail, Advocate Khalsa said that the massive mandate given by the public to Amritpal Singh is beyond the legal process. The Supreme Court has said in many cases that it is the public that rules. It is the basic and fundamental principle of public rule that the mandate of the public has to be accepted by everyone. He said that therefore when the public has given such a huge mandate to Amritpal Singh, then in my opinion there is no need for any legal process, due to which the Punjab government and the central government will have to accept this huge mandate of the public and release him from jail.
How Amritpal Singh will take oath in Lok Sabha?
As per reports, being sworn in as a Member of Parliament (MP) is a constitutional right of the winning candidates. However, for those lodged in prison, like Amritpal Singh, he must seek permission from authorities to be escorted to Parliament for the oath-taking ceremony. Once Amritpal Singh takes oath then he will have to return to prison i.e. Dibrugarh jail.
