Khalistan supporter Amritpal Singh, who won the Lok Sabha elections from Khadoor Sahib in Punjab, took his oath in Parliament on Friday i.e. June 5. He was taken out of Dibrugarh jail at 4 AM under tight security and taken to the airbase. Amritpal was then brought to Delhi in a military plane. He reached the Parliament house and was sworn in Speaker Om Birla’s chambers. Amritpal is now official a member of Lok Sabha parliament and is sworn in to fulfill his duties to the Indian constitution.
Following his swearing in, the MP’s supporters in Khadoor Sahib carried out celebrations and called for the lifting of NSA on Amritpal. They say that now that he has been sworn in, the government should release him from jail. As of now, he will transported back to Dibrugarh after meeting with his family.
The duties of Amritpal’s transfer were delivered Amritsar Rural SSP Satinder Singh. Amritpal is on 4 days’ parole, but the police administration is bringing him out of jail only to take oath. The conditions of parole allow him to meet his family in Delhi. Amritpal Singh's parents and uncle have reached Delhi. Amritpal will be taken back to Dibrugarh jail after meeting with his family. His wife Kirandeep Kaur has been staying in Dibrugarh for a long time, she will not reach Delhi. According to
Amritpal is being held at the Dibrugarh jail in Assam under National Security Act (NSA), due to which he was not able to take his oath along with the rest of the Punjab MPs. Along with Amritpal, another politician facing terror charges who was elected MP, Sheikh Abdul Rashid, also known as Engineer Rashid, will also be taking his oath today. Rashid is being detained in the Tihar jail for charges related to terrorist funding under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
Amritpal, who also leads the Waris Punjab De organisation, was given the parole under the condition that he cannot leave New Delhi during his temporary release. He will be under constant surveillance throughout his release.
