A day after the shocking incident of sacrilege attempt, Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi reached Golden Temple in Amritsar on Sunday evening. Mr Channi was accompanied by Deputy
Chief Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa who also holds the portfolio of Home Ministry.
CM Channi is visiting the shrine to review the situation after a serious sacrilege attempt on Saturday evening.
On December 18, a young man allegedly tried to discrete the holy scripture inside Golden Temple in Amritsar. He was immediately nabbed by the shrine officials and was later thrashed to death
by a crowd of pilgrims.
Strongly condemning the 'most unfortunate' and 'heinous' act of attempting sacrilege of Sri Guru Granth Sahib, CM Channi directed the police to thoroughly probe the entire
matter and nab real conspirators behind the act.
He also called up the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President and assured his government's full support and cooperation to get to the bottom of the matter, on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the Deputy CM on Sunday formed an SIT to probe into the matter. The team will present its report in two days.
Mr Randhawa also held a meeting with Civil and Police officers at Police Lines where IG Border Range Mohnish Chawla, Police Commissioner Dr Sukhchain Singh Gill, Deputy Commissioner Gurpreet
Singh Khaira, SSP (Rural) Rakesh Kaushal, S Rajinder Singh Mehta, S Harjap Singh Suktanwind and S Sukhdev Singh Bhoorakona from SGPC were also present.
After the meeting, Deputy CM said that it was a very unfortunate incident and the police will get to the bottom of it. Randhawa also spoke to Jathedar Sri Akal Takht Sahib and President
SGPC. He said that they would get information regarding each and every aspect of the incident.
