The festival of lights and delight 'Diwali' turned bitter for the Amritsar's family when a woman was shot dead by her husband following a dispute in Gagarmal village falling under the Lopokay police station area on Friday late evening. The deceased has been identified as Paramjit Kaur.
Reportedly, the victim's daughter Sandeep Kaur asked for a mobile phone from her father Baldev Singh. However, he denied to give the phone and indulged in a verbal spat with his wife. Baldev then went away from the home, came back in alcohol-associated dizziness, enraged over the matter, he brought his licensed rifle, and shot his wife.
The police has recorded the statements of the victim's daughter Sandeep Kaur. She informed police that her father Baldev Singh works as a watchman in a school. The entire incident was narrated to the police by Sandeep.
Baldev and his mother often indulge in quarrel over one issue or other, Sandeep stated. She said on Friday at around 7:30 pm, both had a heated conversation over some matter.

Her father got enraged over this and shot her mother. However, the victim died on the spot while Baldev Singh eloped from the scene.
However, the police have booked the case of murder and arms act against Baldev Singh on the complaint of the victim's daughter. Also, the police has been successful to nab the accused.
According to sub-Inspector Harpal Singh, an investigating officer, the victim was cooking food when a quarrel started over the mobile phone. Kaur said he shot her in the face due to which she died on the spot. Though he had fled from the scene, he was arrested from the village later on. He was produced in a court on Sunday, which sent him to two-day police remand. The police have also recovered the weapon used in the crime.
