In a serious development, Punjab STF DSP Vavinder Mahajan has come under the scanner of his own agency after many irregularities were found in his investigation of drug cases. The Special Task Force Chandigarh team raided DSP Vavinder Mahajan's house in Amritsar on Wednesday. During the search, narcotics and a huge amount of money were recovered from there.
Case number 41 has been registered in the Mohali police station of STF. DSP Mahajan has been posted in STF Amritsar range for the longest time. He had already come to know about the action of his own department, so he left the government vehicle and gunman and went underground on Tuesday night itself.
As per the information received, Vavinder Mahajan is currently posted in the headquarter of 5 IRB Amritsar. DSP Vavinder Mahajan lives on Majitha Road Amritsar. He has been in controversies for the last several months. Due to this, apart from the agencies, he was being closely monitored by his own STF. In the month of May, a drug network was busted in Himachal Pradesh's Badri district. During this, more than 70 lakh narcotic pills were recovered.
Apart from this, a network of international smugglers was also busted. A lot of irregularities were done in these cases. Transactions of crores of rupees also came to light.
After this, the matter of Mahajan reached to the DGP. The cases were investigated. During the investigation, the allegations were proved right. Therefore, DSP Vavinder Mahajan was transferred from STF a few days ago. He was posted in the fifth IRB in Amritsar itself. After this, arrest orders were issued.
A special team was sent from Chandigarh to Amritsar, but DSP Mahajan got wind of this and he went underground at 11 p.m. on Tuesday. On Wednesday morning, the special team first searched and seized the records in the STF office in Amritsar.
Then a raid was conducted at DSP Mahajan's house. From there, the STF team has found some documents in addition to drugs and money. On the basis of this, a case has also been registered in the STF police station Mohali. On the other hand, the matter has become so serious that a red alert has been issued on Wednesday evening in Amritsar as well as the border range for the arrest of DSP Mahajan. The police is checking vehicles by setting up blockades. The entire case is being kept secret and distance has been maintained from the media. Both the mobile phones of DSP Mahajan are also switched off.
