The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) announced on Wednesday that the popular milk brand Amul has raised its prices by Rs 2 per litre in Delhi-NCR as well as Ahmedabad and Saurashtra in Gujarat. This increased price will come into effect from July 1, i.e today across all brands and the reason given is rising production cost.
The managing director of the company, RS Sodhi said, “Price of Amul milk will be increased by Rs 2 per litre across India from tomorrow. The new prices will be applicable on all Amul milk brands like Gold, Taaza, Shakti, T-special, as well on cow and buffalo milk.”
While increasing the prices, the company stated that it has not made any price revision in the fresh milk category for 1.5 years. Since then, the cost of energy has increased along with packaging, logistics. In simpler words, the overall cost of operation has increased.

"The cost for packaging has gone up by 30 to 40 percent, the transportation cost has increased by 30 percent, and the energy cost by 30 percent, which led to the increase in the input cost," said RS Sodhi.
“Considering the rise in input costs, our member unions have also increased farmers' price in the range of Rs 45 to Rs 50 per kg fat which is more than 6 percent over the previous year," stated GCMMF.
As Amul, the country’s largest dairy product manufacturer has announced a price hike, it is likely that other brands will also increase the cost.
Recently, the prices of edible oils, fuel and other essential commodities were increased, affecting the budget of almost every household.
