Veteran Bollywood actor Dilip Kumar has died in Mumbai’s Hinduja Hospital due to age-related complications. He was 98-year-old. He was taken to hospital last Wednesday after complaining of breathlessness, it was the second time he has been hospitalized in the same month. He passed away at 7:30 am, told Dr Jalil Parkar, who had been treating the actor.
Family friend Faisal Farooqui tweeted from the actor’s Twitter handle and wrote, “With a heavy heart and profound grief, I announce the passing away of our beloved Dilip Saab, a few minutes ago. We are from God and to Him, we return.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to the actor and tweeted, “Dilip Kumar Ji will be remembered as a cinematic legend. He was blessed with unparalleled brilliance, due to which audiences across generations were enthralled. His passing away is a loss to our cultural world. Condolences to his family, friends and innumerable admirers. RIP.”
Dilip Kumar’s real name was Mohammad Yusuf Khan. He has received Filmfare Award for (8 times) Best Actor for his best performance. He was also honored with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award and in the year 2015, the Government of India also honored him with Padma Bhusan.
Dilip Kumar has acted in more than 50 Bollywood movies like “Mughal-e-Azam (1960)”, “Jamuna (1961)”, “Kranti (1981)”, “Karma (1986)”, and “Saudagar (1991).”
