A government panel studying the side effects of the coronavirus vaccine has confirmed the first death due to anaphylaxis in India. According to reports, a 68-year-old man died after being vaccinated on March 8, 2021, due to Anaphylaxis which now has been identified as a serious Covid vaccine allergic reaction.

However, adverse reactions and serious side effects are still said to be rare. Meanwhile, it is still appropriate that those getting vaccines be alerted about the adverse effects. 

How severe is Anaphylaxis

The allergic reaction can be severely life-threatening for a person with a history of allergy to vaccines. Awareness and early detection in the first few minutes of passing vaccination can easily save lives and curb hesitancy and fears.

Skin reaction

It can be the first sign of an allergic reaction due to the vaccine. Extreme redness on the skin, cheeks along with flushed appearance and swelling are also the signs you should not ignore.

People with severe reactions can experience itchy raised bumps and hives on the skin surface. This generally happens when the immune system overreacts to an allergen.

Skin can also feel hot to the touch and the itching can get intense. Apart from this, swelling at the injection site, prickly, big-sized red spots can be expected as well.

Hypotension/ Low blood pressure

A person can experience cardiovascular symptoms including lightheadedness and low blood pressure. These are related to the disruption caused in blood vessel function due to allergic reactions. In anaphylaxis, the chemicals in the bloodstream may widen and lower the blood pressure. This can also cause spasms. People with a history of cardiac ailment are at more risk.

Weak and Rapid Pulse

Weak and rapid pulse along with neurological changes could also emerge due to the release of histamine in the bloodstream. One can experience anxiety, confusion and profuse headache. Some patients can have trouble speaking and vision can also get blurred.

Difficulty in breathing

An obstruction around the air passage and respiratory channels can be caused. Nasal congestion, difficulty in breathing, coughing and wheezing are the symptoms people must not ignore.

Dizziness and fainting

Dizziness and fainting are not always identified as symptoms of an allergic reaction, however, there are chances that these are connected to other symptoms.

Nausea and Vomiting

Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, cramps and abdominal pain can be the warning signs of an allergic reaction.
