Panjab University’s (PU) water tank was found containing animal bones according to two student bodies of the university. The tainted water was supplied to the Arts department of the PU in Chandigarh as per reports. The tank was inspected after a student was hospitalized for food poisoning.
The University student organization (USO) and NSUI (evening department) alleged that ‘animal bones’ belonging to a monkey and some pigeons were found in the tank. The tanks reportedly supplied tainted water to the Punjab, English, and Sanskrit Departments of the university.
It was also discovered that some of the water tanks of the institution were not properly covered. A representative of the university’s student body (USO) informed that the tank was inspected after a student was hospitalized due to food poisoning.
PU Dean Students Welfare Amit Chauhan said he had asked the PU health centre to prepare a report and get the tank cleaned by Saturday, adding that a student claimed that he fell sick by consuming the tank’s water.
