Another legal trouble for Tandav, a criminal complaint has been registered against the Amazon Prime series in Delhi court for allegedly inciting communal disharmony and hurting sentiments of Hindus. The plea also states that the series is promoting enmity between religious groups and targeting the Uttar Pradesh government.
Vishnu Gupta, a founder member of Hindu Sena has registered a complaint against the series.
The complainant seeks the filing of an FIR against Director Ali Abbas Zafar, Producer Himanshu Krishna Mehra, and Writer Gaurav Solanki, as well as actors Saif Ali Khan, Mohammad Zeeshan Ayub and Gauhar Khan for charges of offences under Sections 153A/295A/505(1)(b)/505(2) IPC and Sections 66/67A IT Act, 2000.
The complainant has also sought an FIR against Aparna Purohit, the head of Amazon Original Content, India.
The complaint is filed through Advocate Shashi Ranjan Kumar Singh.
Mr Gupta, citing the first episode of the series where actor Ayub is shown as Lord Shiva, the complainant in his plea said that the actor in that episode has made derogatory remarks on Hindu religion and mocked Hindu gods with an “intention to promote enmity between the different sections of the society and outrage religious feelings and religious beliefs of Hindus.”
Claiming that the accused actor has tried to target the government of Uttar Pradesh, the complainant said that the series has shown state police doing illegal encounters of Muslims in UP for which there is no legal justification shown.
The complainant further states that the series is trying to malign the Uttar Pradesh government and also spread an atmosphere of hate between Muslimas and Hindus.
